PAUL CARR, PRINCIPAL
Principal Paul Carr joined S9 Architecture in 2011. Paul has a particular expertise with New York City zoning issues, which he utilizes to develop clear options for the highest and best uses of any property. He also plays a leadership role in design delivery and technical support, particularly in the residential sector.
Working at all scales of residential design within dense urban centers, Paul’s designs go beyond simply providing shelter. They enhance the community by culturing a vibrant mix of street-level activity and creating social spaces that elevate the quality of life in the city. He has worked on major luxury and market-rate projects, including 77 Charlton Street, 111 Varick Street, 160 East 22 Street, and 205 Water Street. His affordable housing developments include Bronx Point, 1133 Manhattan Avenue, and 125 Street. In addition to new-builds, Paul is skilled at repositioning properties; for The Capitol at Chelsea, he transformed an outdated apartment building into an enclave of high-end residences by reprogramming and re-envisioning common spaces, adding select amenities, relocating the entrance, and reworking the façade to elevate the building’s presence in the neighborhood.
A practicing architect for over 30 years and a member of the American Institute of Architects, Paul mentors many junior designers at the firm. He earned a BArch from the Ohio State University and a MArch from Yale University.
