YOUNSUNG CHUNG, PRINCIPAL
Principal Younsung Chung has over 20 years of architectural design experience. Driven to create places that engage the surrounding community as well as building users, Younsung believes architecture must be the visualized form of the contextual narratives specific to each site. His process is centered in the belief that architecture is not merely a static structure, but rather an organic form evolving together with urban fabric — merging landscape, interior and exterior spaces, and public and private environments.
In award-winning projects spanning multifamily residential buildings, urban redevelopment and not-for-profit institutions, Younsung designs around the unique story of each site. This site-specific approach is evident in multiple projects he has led since joining S9, including Dock 72, 111 Varick, Cleveland Foundation, the Water Building II at the Wharf, and Gasworx.
Younsung holds a BArch from Seoul National University and earned a MS in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University.
